During the gold rush, James Clair Flood was better known as "The Silver Baron" of the Comstock Load. Estimates of Flood’s net worth were over $30,000,000.00. He had become one of the wealthiest men in America during the 1870's.
Pottier and Stymus of NYC designed this pair of gasoliers for the dining room of Linden Towers. Auguste Pottier and William Stymus commissions have included the interior decoration of the White House Cabinet Room under President Grant, as well as commissions from clients such as William Rockefeller, Frederick Steinway, and the New York Plaza Hotel. The home known as Linden Towers was a 45,000 square foot, six story, Italianate, built in the town of Menlo Park, CA. The pair of gas fixtures hung in the dining room and were adorned with elk, boar, big horned sheep, buffalo, pheasants, labrador retrievers and fruit. Each chandelier weighs 245LBS, and measures eight feet long and 60" across.

This pair of gasoliers has significant historic value and is perhaps the only large pair of gas chandeliers available in the country for purchase. The remarkable pair needs to be viewed in person for dramatic effect. Though the fixtures need a partial restoration, the impressiveness of the pair is striking. Parts need to be replicated from photographs and reproduced from original patterns. A minimum ceiling height of 15 feet is required for the installation of the chandeliers, and only serious inquires are taken into account.
